BASF increases production capacity for methanesulfonic acid/Lutropur® in Ludwigshafen

Ludwigshafen, Germany – September 6, 2012 – After a construction time of nearly two years, BASF has now started up production in the plant extension used to manufacture methanesulfonic acid in Ludwigshafen. BASF is the world’s leading manufacturer of methanesulfonic acid, which is marketed world-wide under the Lutropur® trademark, with a total capacity of 30 000 tonnes per year. Extending the Lutropur® plant has led to the creation of 12 additional jobs in Ludwigshafen.

BASF is launching Lutropur MSA for the esterification market in South America. BASF Launches Broad-spectrum UV Filter Z-COTE® LSA

FLORHAM PARK, NJ, September 5, 2012 – BASF announced today the launch of Z-COTE® LSA, its latest inorganic, broad-spectrum UV filter. Z-COTE LSA provides broad-spectrum protection from long wave UVA rays and medium wave UVB rays by physically scattering, reflecting and absorbing solar radiation. The filter is hypoallergenic, making it the ideal ingredient for use in daily skin moisturizers and beach wear products formulated for sensitive skin. BASF sells marine biopolymers business to Seagarden ASA

Ludwigshafen, Germany – July 3, 2012 – BASF SE and the Norwegian company Seagarden ASA signed a contract to transfer the Chitosan marine biopolymers business. Chitosan marine biopolymers are used in personal care products and as pharmaceutical ingredients. The transaction is expected to be formally completed by August 2012.
