IFSCC 2012: Experts from BASF share insights into new studies

September 21, 2012

From October 15 to 18 this year, experts from BASF Personal Care and its cosmetics active ingredient business represented under the banner Beauty Creations will be attending the 27th International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) congress in Johannesburg, South Africa, to share exclusive insights into their latest studies.

Exploring consumer needs in different market segments and regions is extremely important if manufacturers are to succeed on the market. BASF’s Personal Care business draws its inspiration for their products and concepts from real life. Based on a unique combination of science excellence, market empathy and strong technological and research capabilities, the world’s leading supplier of high-quality ingredients and actives for the personal care industry is committed to be at the pulse of consumers and their needs and desires.

Poster and presentations by BASF Beauty Creations will for instance cover a range of research fields that are particularly relevant to current trends in the international beauty and personal-care markets. In response to the growing demand for anti-aging products, one of this year’s presentations will be about the evolution of skin elasticity and firmness as well as skin optical properties during skin aging. In addition, the research work on the glycation phenomenon will be addressed during a poster session. Other research findings that will be presented include a histological study highlighting new ways to effectively reduce the appearance of stretch marks. A second poster will focus on the discovery of a new molecule that exhibits skin lightening efficacy.

The growing popularity of hair relaxers prompted BASF’s latest research into suitable ingredients for lye hair relaxers. For these very efficient hair straightening products, perceivable hair damage is still the main issue. The research findings of BASF’s Personal Care business, which will be presented at IFSCC 2012, were essential in the development of Plantasil® Relaxcare – BASF’s new hair care ingredient for use in relaxer formulations. The product is based on an innovative technology that reduces hair damage caused by lye relaxers, without compromising the straightening efficacy.
